It was an amazing trip to the Himalayas. The weather was nearly perfect, and the mountains were empty. Summit day I think we saw two people besides us on Island Peak. We were literally the only people on the summit and as far as we could see. I doubt the mountains have been that empty since the days they were first summited back in the 1950’s. The winds were howling on Summit night. I thought we were going to cancel the attempt before we even got out of the tents. But the winds stopped completely at about 4am. Off we went. It was definitely a hard climb………I was the slow guy on the way up but had plenty of gas to get back down. Sure is a great feeling to look at the pics on top.
I really appreciate you sticking with me to get me back out to Island Peak. It’s been bugging me for 3 years. Hey, btw, you’ve really picked up your end-of-trip-goodies game. Love the coffee mug with our summit pic, AND the patch with my name on it. AND the hat……….secretly always wanted one of your hats. I should mention that Ang Kami is the best (you know it already). Such a humble, gentle, and happy guy……who just happens to be a world class athlete, too. 204 Summits is crazy. Always felt safe and assured of success with him leading.
