A massive heap of praise to our guide Kalden. His calm, wonderful approach with everyone from day one is brilliant. The way he dealt with each of my, Rebecca and Devon’s issues at Gorak Shep unflappably was actually remarkable. The hallmarks of quality people show most apparently when things don’t go to plan. He is exemplary, a great and inspiring leader.

Then thanks too to Kay and Dawa, for being here and visiting me in hospital. When you are all out of sorts and in a strange land, it is enormously comforting to have that care and compassion. They’re a credit to you. I’ve thanked them myself and will continue to do so of course but please pass that on from me as well.

Thanks finally to you and Ian, for running the best trekking company there is. Your personal touch, the aftercare, and the feeling of being looked after from start to finish is wonderful, and especially when things don’t go to plan.

You deserve all the wonderful accolades that you get, and from me I’ll continue to spread them as wide and far as I can.
